Sunday Mornings 9:30-10:30 in the Social Hall
The Adult Christian Education program is committed to engaging questions of life and faith that matter deeply in our day-to-day lives. ASPC is a growing congregation and we firmly believe that the Christian life is one of discipleship. Whether you have been a long-time churchgoer or are dabbling in Christianity for the first time, please consider joining us on Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:30 in the fellowship hall.
Current Christian Education Series: Crucifixion and Sacrifice in the New Testament
The first followers of Jesus lived in a world where religion and sacrifice were deeply connected, in ways that most people felt they understood. In our own context, however, sacrifice has become an offense and is often seen as savage and cruel. We have also become aware that many kinds of oppression, from slavery to domestic violence and beyond, were supported by the idea that it was good for the victims to suffer as Jesus had suffered. Yet we remain fascinated by sacrifice, and sacrificial themes haunt our imaginations. What was sacrifice and in what way can we understand Jesus’ death as a sacrifice? What was crucifixion for? How could a public execution have come to be seen as a ritual? What difference does the death of Jesus make to us and why? Join us as we ponder these significant questions in scripture. Snacks and childcare will be provided.
Need Nourishment During the Midweek?
Midweek Bible Study: Join us every Wednesday 12:10-12:50 for a light lunch and Bible study facilitated by the Reverend Mike Pulsifer (mikepulsifer@yahoo.com) and friends. This month we are focusing on the Psalms. Come and be fed on your lunch hour. All are welcome!
Mud Water and Light: Join us during Lent Tuesday Evenings, Feb 28 thru March 29, in the Social Hall around the dinner table at 6:00pm for study, reflection and worship. Lent is a time for introspection and spiritual journeying as we anticipate the new life promised in Easter. Through learning, reflection, and fellowship we can enter into a closer communion with Christ and one another.
